HEY GUYS...JOCK ITCH?!?!?!?!?
Hola,

I get chronic jock itch, and although I have been using Lotrimin AF cream, I am asking this question: Which ingredient is most effective for treating jock itch?: Clotrimazole (Lotrimin AF cream), Butenafine Hydrochloride (Lotrimin Ultra Cream), or Miconazole Nitrate (Lotrimin AF powder spray)? Also, is Lotrimin good, or should I use a different brand? Also, which form is better for jock itch: cream, powder, or spray? Thanks. And please, if you have suffered from jock itch before, please give your recommendations and story. Thanks for your time!

Can I use Lotrimin antifungal cream on my childrens scalp?
My kids 4 and 7 has a dry patch on their heads my daughter has it a little worst. A doctor suggested Lotrimin antifungal cream for my son. (At the time my daughter did not have it) when I read the directions for Lotrimin it states not effective on scalp or nail. Any suggestions?

Usually dry, scaly patches of skin on the scalp are more eczema / seborrhea related. Fungal infections of the scalp typically cause hair loss and a bald spot at the site of the infection. A doctor can do a scraping of the skin flakes and have them analyzed for fungal organisms, or look at the rash under a Wood's light (blacklight).

An antifungal may work if you definitely know it's fungal, but Lotrimin is a bit weak. Over-counter Lamisil is best. But if it's seborrheic in nature, you'd be better off trying Selsun Blue or Denorex shampoo on it.

Apply some shampoo directly on the affected area (may use a q-tip), rub in gently right on the rash (don't suds it up), leave for 10 minutes, then rinse. Do this once or twice a day and see it that helps.

There are some stronger solutions available by prescription, such as Synalar (a hydrocortisone solution) that can be used if the Selsun doesn't quite get rid of it.

Is there a danger of using Lotrimin antifungal cream?
I'm not sure if I have a fungal skin infection, but just in case I plan to apply Lotrimin (clotrimazole) cream. Could this be bad?

If it's truly a fungal infection, you should certainly see results within the week. It doesn't sound as if the doctor did any verification of the diagnosis, though, with a scraping or a culture. So, if it doesn't begin to clear within a week, you should probably seek the help of a dermatologist in order to make the correct diagnosis.

Lotrimin Ultra?
What would happen if a person with a penile yeast infection used LOTRIMIN ULTRA on his penis?

It probably wouldn't work very well.

The active ingredient, butenafine, works great against dermatophyte fungi such as those which cause tinea or jock itch, but not so well against yeasts such as Candida albicans. Some antifungal creams such as clotrimazole (Canesten) work well against both.

What did Lotrimin do to my foot?
I have had athlete's foot for a while now, and I bought some lotrimin liquid foot spray to get rid of it. I've used it for about a week and the itchy areas between and on top of my toes are red and with raised bumps that look like hives. I assume I'm allergic to the stuff, but is that even possible?

YEP! You can be allergic to absolutely anything at any time. Stop using it and put some benedryl on the areas for awhile and see if it clears up. If it does it was an allergy. If it doesn't then you need to go see a doc because you have a bad situation.

yes if you use the cream form. Lotrimin is the same stuff that is used to treat vaginal yeast infections and is an anti-fungal. Your best bet is to go see your doctor so that you can get a proper diagnosis but if you decide to go the lotrimin route be sure to use it for the full dosage term even if the rash goes away. This will prevent any micro-organisms from becomming resistant. Guys can get yeast infections too...especially if you just ran a course of anti-biotics. I encourage you to get a proper diagnosis though if you've never been diagnosed with a yeast infection and know what to look for. I took erythromycin as a teenager and got a yeast infection down there because of the anti-biotic killing the beneficial bacteria that normally keeps the yeast organisms that live naturally on our skin in check......and so since I personally know what a yeast infection looks like for me.....anytime I see it re-occur I know what it is to treat it. If you've never had a diagnosis before it may be unwise to self treat in case it is something different.

Is it safe to use Lotrimin AF when using a tanning bed?
I had been tanning for about a month (which is the 1st time I've ever been tanning) and I noticed white spots on my chest. I went to the doctor and she said it was tinea veriscolor, and told me to use Lotrimin AF. I know this is a skin, antifungal medication and that you shouldn't use tanning beds while using certain medications. Is this one of them?
By the way, it's the cream, not a pill or anything.

First off, I would change tanning salons because you prob got the fungal infection from unclean tanning beds...you can prob still tan, but not right after application...if you have the cream on your skin it might intensify the rays and cause you to burn so I'd wait a couple of hours after application to tan. Also if your not sure you can always call your local pharmacy and talk to the pharmacist, they are always willing to answer questions..

Lotrimin ultra for dermatitis on face?
I recently ran out of my prescription cream and am waiting on an appointment to get more. I have heard lotrimin works wonders on athlete's foot, which is a fungus. Dermatitis is also a fungus. Should I attempt to use it to control my condition until I get more cream? It will be very short term. Has anyone tried this?

If your child has ringworm, get her to a Doctor, now!
Ringworm will spread rapidly...and it IS contagious.
She will most likely need an oral and a topical med.
Ringworm is RARELY treated successfully at home.

I've been using Lotrimin Ultra everynight for a month, why do my balls still itch horribly?
I always thought that crotch itch was only skin irritation. until I learned that athletes foot and crotch itch are about the same thing. I happened to come down with athletes foot and I figured I had the same thing on my balls.

my athletes foot went away, but my balls constantly itch worse than ever before,

the Lotrimin lotion or spray makes my balls sweat even more, and itch even more. I cant get my balls to stop itching, I'm sick and tired of it.

does lotramin AF work for tinea versicolor?
I just purchased a tube of lotrimin ultra, antifungal cream for my tinea versicolor. I read that it works but I'm not sure if it does so I would just like some more opinions. It also contains the product butenafine hydrochloride. Just for for some more info.

It doesn't work on my boyfriend's but his is pretty severe I think. He gets shots of some antifungal or something for his, and occasionally they give him this bottle of two pills. He has to take one and go sweat, be in the sun, etc, then the other one later on and repeat. I'll see if I can find out more and try to email you if you want to add me. We live in Florida, where it's already in the 80's some days, so his is really flaring right now.

PS, until i find out more, it probably can't hurt to try the Lotrimin. I know it's helped him a bit before when the flares haven't been too bad.

Are lotrimin antifungal cream side effects of rash isolated to the area of the jock itch, or all over the body?
It says that the side effects may include: rash, itching/swelling, and I am wondering if these are isolated to the area initially treated or all over the body.

Well since you're only applying the cream to the infected area, I would think the side effects would only apply there unless you have a serious allergy to the cream, in which case a rash in other places of the body would probably occur.

OxymoronBeauty: You can't just suck on any hoe toes tho. Be applying Lotrimin to your tongue twice daily

FreeChildhood: @3treescoffee no, not abx, antifungals. We have Lotrimin too but I want to try something natural so I'm hoping tea tree & coconut oil helps.
Daniel_Doelling: #Random Had athlete's foot. Tried Lotrimin, but it burned the crud out of my foot and didn't work. Used Neosporin knockoff. Boom. Gone.
