Clotrimazole and betamethasone dipropionate: The combination of topical clotrimazole and betamethasone commonly known as Lotriderm is used to treat fungal skin infections such as vulvovaginal candidiasis, tricomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm. Clotrimazole is an antifungal medication that treats or prevents infection caused by fungus, while Betamethasone is a topical potent corticosteroid that reduces inflamation (dermatitis), itching, and redness of the skin. Never use to treat diaper rash or in adolescent younger than 17 years old. It may take up to 1-2 weeks before symptoms improve. Take special care its not known whether betamethasone and clotrimazole passes into breast milk or if it could harm an unborn baby.

Clotrimazole is an antifungal while betamethasone dipropionate is a synthetic corticosteroid. These two drugs are combined in certain formulations indicated for jock itch (tinea cruris) & fungal foot infection, among others.

I hope this helps.

Can I use clotrimazole and betamethasone dipropionate cream to treat psoriasis?

Hello there. I suggest that you should look into natural remedies before subjecting herself to the steroidal and immunosuppressant drugs the official medicine today use for treating psoriasis. The side effects are worse than the disease itself. For me personally the herbal cream/spray combo from Champori.com works the best; and I spent many years looking for something that is safe, effective and fast-working. Try it: it comes with money back guarantee so if it doesn't work for you - it's free.

I have psoriasis on my penis and was told not to use betamethasone, which clears it up quickly. Why not?
I started using betamethasone dipropionate when I was overseas. Because the steroidal ointment works fast, I have used it for a couple of years, applying once or twice a day to the glans whenever the psoriasis shows up. This has been very successful and has had no noticeable adverse side-effects.

On my return to the States I was prescribed hydrocortisone valerate, instead, which takes much longer to clear up the problem, and told not to apply betamethasone dipropionate to my penis.

I would like to know what the specific risks of applying betamethasone dipropionate (aka Diprosone/Diprolene) to my penis are.

My 8 month old has a moderate case of eczema due to food allergies that we haven't wuite figured all out yet. He has steroid creams that we use. We were told by both his pediatrician and his allergy specialist NOT to use them on either his face or genitals. The reason is that steroids can cause the skin to thin out and the skin of those areas is already thin. We were told that when it is bad enough we could use regular over the counter hydrocortisone cream. It takes longer to clear the problem up but does work.

The first cream is a combination of an antifungal agent and the same cortisone product as what's in the diprolene cream. So, in that sense, the cortisone product part of it is the same.

Clotrimazole is an antifungal, and creams containing this are used to treat conditions like vaginal thrush or mild fungal skin infections. Betamethasone dipropionate is a cortisone cream - an anti-inflammatory used to relieve various common itchy or inflamed skin conditions. Neither of these are used for treating sexually transmitted diseases.

Your questions is not really clear. Did you get the Betamethasone for a tight foreskin or was it really for psoriasis?
If you can already retract the foreskin without a problem, then you should apply the cream to the affected area.
If you cannot retract the foreskin fully, you should apply the cream to the foreskin and work in the retraction stretches in the links below.
In any case,....never try to retract the foreskin to the point where pain is involved. Pain is a damage indicator. Over stretching till it hurts can create micro tears in the skin opening that will heal over with non elastic scar tissue, making retraction more difficult. No pain,....ever.
Go to: www.norm.org and read about the reason and function of the foreskin. You will see how very fortunate you are to still have yours, and how misguided are those who promote circumcision for any reason.
Good luck with this.

You are treading on rather dangerous territory. In short form: yes, any topical cortico-steroid in conjunction with a moisturizer can treat eczema.
Your best bet: cool the area to prevent itching, consult a dermatologist.

Can i put Betamethasone Dipropionate on a popped pimple?
I have a very irritated area on my face almost 10mm in diameter, and i would like to know if i could put beta .05% cream on it. I know they say do not put it on acne vulgaris, but this pimple has already been popped and i am merely trying to reduce the redness.

Topical steroid like Betamethasone Dipropionate is not recommended for open wounds like your "popped" pimple. Doctors usually prescribe topical or oral antibiotics for that.

The cream will not in and of itself resolve your problem.

Stretching exercises are done in conjunction with the steroid cream, and this must be done gradually and gently. Using excessive force won't speed up the process, it causes micro-tearing and scarring.

There are even devices to help with the stretching. One is called the "glansie."

Don't pay any attention to those who advise circumcision; it is damage to the penis, and damages a male's sexual feeling and function. Circumcision is never necessary nor desirable.

There are other treatments for this condition, and many doctors won't offer them, as they like to make money from circumcising males (especially forcing it on infants) and many doctors belong to the religions that try to impose circumcision on all males----they're highly biased.

Many times a condition such as yours is caused by someone prematurely and forcibly retracting the foreskin of an infant or toddler, which should never be done, as the foreskin isn't supposed to be either retracted or retractable until about the age of 10.

When you finally manage retraction, your glans will be hypersensitive from not having been exposed.
This will be diminished to a normal level within a few weeks by simple retraction daily for about ten minutes per session---a couple of sessions per day.

The foreskin is not "extra skin" as some people think, but it is a complex structure, with specialized tissues and nerve endings, and is essential for complete, natural and normal sexual feeling and function.

Circumcision is a fraud and a hoax.

A foreskin is not a birth defect; it is a birthright.

If it's because the thrush is vaginal (as in a yeast infection), your partner should wear a condom until you have completed the treatment and you are also symptom-free. Otherwise, he can get the yeast infection/thrush and can reinfect you with it.

Anyone have a remedy for scalp eczema besides cortisone lotions?
I have had an itchy scalp since I was in college. Doctor has given me Betamethasone Dipropionate Lotion for years or Diprolene. I think stress causes it since I am a male and tend to keep things in. I wake up in the middle of the night scratching my head. I have double washed my sheets and tried different detergents too. I have tried Indian herbal remedies, Nioxin shampoo, tea tree shampoos, tea tree oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E. I think it is my body's way of saying I'm a little stressed in life. What are your remedies?

The main cause of eczema is overreaction of the immune system. Identifying certain foods, chemicals, etc can be very helpful in battling this disease. I try to avoid soy and sea food which trigger my flare-ups.
After using number of prescription drugs I've turned to the natural treatments.
Now I use herbal remedies from serenaskin.com, which aims at the root of the disease - the immune system. This treatment controls my eczema very well.
After about 3 weeks of using ointment and spray my scalp cleared up and now I just continue with anti-eczema extract, which controls the immune system. My scalp has been clear for months now.
I'm very pleased with the results.

Do clotrimazole pessaries stop condoms working?
I've been given a Clotrimazole pessary and read online that it can reduce the effectiveness of latex condoms, but the nurse did not warn me about this at all and it does not mention it on the instructions leaflet, so do I need to worry? How would it damage them? Thanks!

Yes, antifungals for yeast infections such as the one you have been given CAN indeed cause a condom to be less effective. This is because the chemicals in the antifungal cream can actually break down the latex, just as an oil based lubricant would, making it much more likely to break.

Not to mention that it's probably just better to avoid vaginal sex altogether if you have an infection of sorts, as it can be painful and you can give a yeast infection to your partner (this is not uncommon; in fact, many times a girl will give her partner a yeast infection and they will just pass it back and forth to each other without realizing it).

Steroid lotions are generally prescribed for use in a hairy area. Since you did not say where you were supposed to be using it, I'll presume that it's for use on an inflamed part of your body that has hair on it. You should apply a small amount and rub it in, either once or twice a day, depending upon the directions given you by your doctor. And, because the actual steroid chemical here is a strong one, make sure that you don't overuse it, and cause skin thinning.
