Can I mix nasal sprays? Which nasal spray should I use? How much each time?
Which nasal spray should I use? How much each time?
I have a ridiculously intense cold which is preventing me from sleeping and studying. The main problem is my nose. First of all, antihistamines produce side effects for me (scary dreams, confusion, more nasal blockage), and so my only option seems to be nasal spray. I have two nasal sprays: Oxymetazoline hydrochloride .05%, which is supposed to be taken 2-3 sprays twice a day, and ephedrine hydrochloride, which has about 20 mg of ephedrine per 3 drops, according to the box, and can be taken 3-4 times per day. Can I take both of these medicines? Neither of them seem to last long, and if I were really to use the Oxymetazoline whenever I needed to, it would be more like 5 times per day, as the "12 hour formula" only lasts less than 5 hours for me. I'm scared of overdosing on one of them, so should I alternate? Take one during the day, one at night? Would it be okay to use the oxymetazoline or the ephedrine more than the recommended dosage, seeing as not sleeping is very damaging to my health????

BTW I have very low blood pressure 80/50 if this makes a difference in terms of my tolerance of these nasal sprays.

Is it bad to use a nasal spray with oxymetazoline hydrochloride nightly?
I've had a cold and I can't sleep with a congested nose. I've used it the last three nights just before I go to bed. Is it bad to continue using it and why?

It is ok to use it until your cold is better, maybe for a couple more days. But you should not continue using it as you can become dependent on it. With long-term use, you may experience continued runny nose, worsened congestion, nasal irritation and, in some cases, nosebleed.

is it really necessary to stick to dosage of nasal sprays?
i bought an oxymetazoline hydrochloride nasal spray for a blocked nose, it says to only use it every 6-8 hours, is this really necessary? i've used nasal sprays which you can use as often as needed before

The bad news is most nasal sprays become or already are ineffective after just a few days. Your body rejects their action and you set yourself for rebound results which are worse than the original problem. Taking more just hastens this result. Also after taking them for a long time which is just habitual and doesn't do any good the withdrawal is horrible.

Could the damage from prolong use of nasal spray decongestant be permanent?
The main ingredient Oxymetazoline hydrochloride is known to have a rebound effect. Meaning that symptoms could get worse if prolong use of the product extends beyond 5 days or so.
Could the damage be permanent?

Its reversible over time (rebound effect). However if you have been using nasal spray for months and you're dependent on it. Prolonged use causes loss of smell, Increased incidence of viral, bacterial and Fungal infections, damage to the mucosa of the nose. Swollen face, lower legs, or ankles vision problems cold or infection that lasts a long time muscle weakness. Cases of perforation of the Nasal septum have also been reported.

Is decongestant Nasal Spray bad for my health?
I am 21 and healthy. I have to spray Nasal Spray or I can't breath through my nose at all. It completely plugs up. My dad is the same way, so I guess that I get it from him.
Someone told me that nasal spray is bad for you and that it could cause heart strain. Is that true?

The chemical in it is Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride 0.05% if you need to know that.

The problem with most medicinal nasal sprays is that they cause rebound, that is you cannot breathe without using the spray. In that instance, I would have to say, it's not good for you, the same as when a medication says it may be addictive. You need to live without drugs, if you can. Most clinical trials are short and can be staged to achieve a certain result by using only patients that have the same reactions. Drug companies are a multi-billion dollar industry and if you think they have your best interest at heart, you should know that they don't. Neither does the FDA who is partnered with the largest pharmaceutical companies you can imagine.

My best recommendation is to rinse out your nasal passages 2 x day, once in the morning and evening (hours before you go to bed as your passages will drain afterwards). Then I also recommend that you get some Grapefruit Seed Extract to keep your nasal passages from getting infected. Get the liquid and use 3-4 drops into the nasal rinse saline using only bottled water, not tap and see if it doesn't alleviate some of your problem. The other problem it sounds like you have is something you're eating that is causing too much mucous to develop. Usually that is an allergic reaction to some food. You need to find out what food it is and avoid it so you can reduce the amount of mucous in your nose.

You can continue to do what you've been doing as you are 21, but later as you get older, it gets worse if you don't correct it now.

What is the most powerful nasal decongestant available?
Oxymetazoline hydrochloride and pseudoephedrine sprays cause rebound congestion. Oral pseudoephedrine and loratadine do not work.

Does ANYTHING work that can be taken for long periods of time for completely eliminating nasal congestion?

Can Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride addiction cause blood urination or weakened immune system leading to UTI?
I've been using nasal spray containing Oxymetazoline HCl, found in products such as Afrin. The spray is extremely efficient at clearing up my nasal passages, however it leads to chronic congestion as the blood vessels in the nasal passage will no longer shrink on their own (without the spray). But I can't get relief from saline solutions as they are not strong enough. I found bloody mucous membranes in my tissue yesterday and I'm concerned that Oxymetazoline HCl has caused tissue damage. I've been prone to urinating blood over the last year, and think it's connected with the nasal spray. Could drippage from the nasal cavity into my stomach weaken my immune system thereby making me susceptible to Urinary Tract Infection or bloody urine? Or is it something else that is causing the blood in the urine? The time frame from when I started getting urine in the blood seems to equate to when I started using nasal sprays with Oxymetazoline HCl. It is highly addictive! How do I break it?
telling me to consult a doctor is obvious. i didn't post this question to be told to ask a doctor, anyone can figure that out on their own. I'm looking for people who have relevant experience to my issue and or knowledge to answer the question itself. I don't have a doctor.
I've seen a doctor for the bloody urine in the past, i did an ultrasound on the kidneys and testicles, no issues were found. the doc gave me antibiotics and the problem went away after the first dose of the 10 day regiment. 9 months later (now) the issue has returned but went away when I started drinking water with lemon as recommended by a friend. Perhaps the acidity in lemon also helps kill off infection. Regardless, something is causing the frequent infection in the UT. I notice my urine gets redish after drinking raspberry iced tea, but not necessarily bloody. i don't have insurance, so i don't want to have to keep going back to the doc for antibiotics for the same issue once or twice a year. the literature for the nose spray doesn't say anything regarding causation of UTI. Since this post, I've started using saline nasal spray so I will track the changes in bloody mucous membranes, bloody urine over time, and decrease of swollen blood vessels in the nose for ease of breathing.

No way nasal spray would cause blood in the urine. The problem you are having is well known with nasal sprays. It called rebound stuffiness and the only way to get over it is to stop using nasal sprays. Oral decongestants will help some during this withdrawal. Anytime there is blood in the urine it is serious and medical attention should be found.

Nose Spray - Good or bad?
Me and my mom have been fighting about this for weeks. My question is if nose spray has long term effects on me. Anyway, i am using a nose spray with oxymetazoline hydrochloride as the main ingredient. I can't sleep with out it, but that is my only sign of dependency. In the winter my sinus's go crazy and i can hardly breathe. I use this about 2 - 3 times a day (once at night, once in the morning, and once around noon) two squirts each time. In the summer I do not use this. I've been using for 3 to 4 months now and it works great - just like when I started using it. She keeps wanting me to use "Omnaris" nose spray with active ingredient ciclesonide. Any more information I'll give.

Thanks, Shea.

Ear canal got dried, not producing wax anymore, I hear echos in the canal when sounds come in. Infection?
I felt as if water trapped inside. So I used cotton but I felt water was there. Or I thought it might be wax blocking but not like that as the doctor I visited said. And the sounds started to echo inside my ear so I hear a sound twice, one real, one echo. I visited a coctor and used the precribed medicine but my ear got dried and no wax coming out anymore. Now it's still the same even though I'm using the prescription- oxymetazoline hydrochloride. I feel better sometimes when it is inside but I feel the problem is still the same. I will have to visit to the clinic again. I feel uncomfortable.

It is a little unclear from your question why you're using oxymetazoline for your ear. Although not unheard of in the ear, oxymetazoline (Afrin) is usually used intranasally. Are you using it in your ear or in your nose?

If it's the latter, and you've been using it for more than three days, you should stop.

You need to see your doctor again. This doesn't SOUND like an infection, especially without pain or fever, but it is impossible to tell without looking. Ask your doctor to refer you to an otolaryngologist.

This answer does not constitute official medical advice and should not be used as a substitute for seeing a licensed medical professional.

what are lincomycin hydrochloride and lidocaine hydrochloride gel use for?
miao
02/14/06
Reply
Lincomycin hydrochloride is mainly used for fighting respiratory tract and soft tissue infections.

there's another type: It is indicated for the infections due to Staphylococcus,Streptococcus Pneumococcus and anaerobes. It may cause enteritis of pseudo-menbrane after prolonged administration. Patients with hepatic insufficiency should use prudently.

Lidocaine hydrochloride is used as a pain reliever. Lidocaine (lignocaine) belongs to a group of medicines known as local anaesthetics. Lidocaine acts to block temporarily the pathway of pain impulses along nerve fibres. This relieves or prevents pain in the area where it has been injected. This preparation is injected to provide local anaesthesia for minor procedures, such as dental surgery.

you can check out these websites. it's good. good luck!
